On May 10, Mr. Thomas Thompson was presented with the Air Force Association Pennsylvania and the Joe Walker/Mon Valley Chapter Teacher of the Year 2008 by its representatives Jim Cain, Tom Hamer, and Bill Wurthington.

The Air Force Association (AFA) is an independent, nonprofit, civilian education organization promoting public understanding of aerospace power and the pivotal role it plays in the security of the nation. AFA publishes Air Force Magazine, conducts national symposia and disseminates information through outreach programs. It sponsors professional development seminars and recognizes excellence in the education and aerospace fields through national awards programs. AFA presents scholarships and grants to Air Force active duty, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve members and their dependents; and awards educator grants to promote science and math education at the elementary and secondary school level. Mr. Thompson received his BS in Physics from the University of Pittsburgh, and he received his Education Degree from California University of Pennsylvania.  Mr. Thompson has been a valued member of the BVAHS staff since 1988, where he  currently teaches Astronomy, Physics, and Advanced Physics and is the sponsor of the Bible Club and Amateur Radio Club.
