RELAY FOR LIFE
Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back.
On Friday, April 18, high school students from Belle Vernon, Charleroi, and Ringgold participated in the Relay for Life of the Mon Valley All-Youth Event at Charleroi High School Track. The event is sponsored by the American Cancer Society of Washington County whereby students, through their clubs and extracurricular activities, raise money for cancer research, memorialize cancer victims, and pay tribute to cancer survivors. Survivors are invited to the event.
Some activities included the Opening Ceremony, Pizza Eating Contest, Laps, Survivor Ceremony, and the Luminaria Ceremony. Belle Vernon was represented by one group from each of the following: Home Ec Club, National Honor Society, Swim Team, Volleyball Team, Cheerleaders, and Band. MIC/SADD and the Spanish Club each had two groups. The Interact Club rounded out the BVAHS participation with a whopping nine groups!
Over 200 BVA students participated in this worthwhile activity. They raised $12,000. "It was a great experience. It was nice to see a lot of young people get involved to help people. We had a lot of fun doing something good for others," stated participant Taylor Stein.
