PA Standard Outcomes
Academic standards met by the programs of the gifted support process at the Belle Vernon Area High School are not the primary concern in the compilation of a student GIEP. However, the nature of the tasks a student is addressing within the support program and inside of his/her GIEP will find alignment of support tasks and specific academic standards.
The nature of the individualized instruction and or project development by a student of the BVA gifted support system is such that a student will labor at tasks that are both of individual interest/need and typically beyond the normal scope of the traditional classroom setting.
A student often meets various grade level/disciplinary standards by participating in individual or project level tasks that are most often than not competitive by design. Competition serves to sharpen thinking, recall, research, and performance skills while addressing essential social development issues such as accommodation, sportsmanship, personal character, division of labor, insight and experience.
Every project will not address of course all Pennsylvania Standards. The specific standards that are most assuredly addressed by the entirety of the program are:
1.1.11; 1.2.1-8.11
2.1-11.11
3.1-8.12
4.1.12; 4.3.12; 4.6.12; 4.8.12; 4.9.12
5.1.12 A, B, C, I; 5.2.12 A, B
6.4.12 F; 6.5.12 B, C, D
7.2.12 A, B
9.1.12 A-D, G, H, J; 9.3.12 A-G; 9.4.12 B, C
10.1.12
11.3.12
Specific bindings for a student will depend on the topic and scope of the individual's GIEP.

Participation points are awarded as per the assessment portion of each activity and can be calculated by logged hours of engagement in GIEP activity at the rate of 1 participation point per 10 hours
Students are responsible for documenting participations.
